Two ways to work together

Fund the Build—or Partner on the Rights.

01 · Commissioned Development

Pay CodexDeus to Develop the Game

You fund a defined game-development engagement based on the existing CodexDeus pricing. The Playable Concept starts at $5,500 for one focused browser-game level. Larger adaptations, vertical slices, storefront releases, and console work are estimated separately.

  • You arrive with the rights and source material
  • CodexDeus scopes the gameplay, production, price, and milestones
  • Ownership and permitted portfolio use are defined in the development agreement
  • No CodexDeus rights option is required for a standard commissioned build

02 · Selected Rights Partnership

Let CodexDeus Option the Game Rights

For a small number of qualifying books, CodexDeus may pay an advance for an option and, if exercised, acquire an exclusive license to develop and commercialize the agreed worldwide interactive-entertainment and video-game adaptation rights.

  • CodexDeus funds the agreed game development rather than charging a service fee
  • The rights holder receives an agreed advance
  • Target revenue split: 90% CodexDeus / 10% rights holder
  • Monthly statements and royalty payments after commercial release
Review Submission Criteria

Rights partnerships are selective and not guaranteed. The advance, option period, license scope, revenue definitions, recoupment, approvals, accounting, audit rights, reversion, and all other obligations exist only in a fully executed agreement reviewed by the parties’ legal counsel.

What CodexDeus is seeking

Proven RPG Worlds With an Audience.

The strongest fit already demonstrates reader demand and contains systems, progression, characters, and locations that naturally invite play.

  1. 01

LitRPG, GameLit, progression fantasy, or RPG-forward speculative fiction

  2. 02

At least 100 Amazon reviews and a 4.0+ average rating

  3. 03

An author or indie author with an active, engaged social audience

  4. 04

A distinctive world, character, progression system, or repeatable gameplay loop

  5. 05

Clear control of the available interactive-entertainment adaptation rights

Meeting these signals does not promise review, an option, financing, development, or release. CodexDeus may consider exceptional properties outside the guidelines.

Rights vocabulary

Game Rights Are a Defined License.

“Exclusive worldwide interactive-entertainment and video-game adaptation rights” is a useful description, but the contract—not the label—controls what CodexDeus can do.

  • The exclusive right to develop, produce, publish, distribute, market, and sell video games based on the agreed work
  • Worldwide territory and the specifically agreed platforms, including PC, browser, mobile, and consoles
  • The agreed treatment of sequels, expansions, downloadable content, remakes, and ports
  • Use of the book title, characters, settings, story elements, and approved promotional materials for the game

Toys and Merchandise

Merchandising, toys, apparel, collectibles, and other ancillary rights are separate from the core game-rights grant unless expressly included. When requested, they will have their own scope, approvals, economics, and reserved-rights language.

Target rights-partnership economics

Advance + Monthly Participation.

Advance

An agreed upfront payment for the selected option or rights transaction.

10%

Target rights-holder share of Defined Game Net Receipts.

90%

Target CodexDeus share supporting development, publishing, and operating risk.

Monthly

Target statement and payment cadence after commercial revenue begins.

“Defined Game Net Receipts” and permitted deductions must be written precisely in the final agreement. This page describes a target business model and is not an offer, option, license, promise to contract, or legal advice.

Questions

Before You Submit.

What are book-to-game rights called?

The clearest practical description is exclusive worldwide interactive-entertainment and video-game adaptation rights. There is no single magic phrase that replaces a contract: the agreement must define platforms, territory, term, exclusivity, sequels, ports, marketing, approvals, and the rights the author keeps.

Does an option transfer my book copyright?

Not by itself. An option normally gives CodexDeus a limited exclusive period in which it may acquire the game-rights license described in the agreement. The underlying book copyright and all rights not expressly granted remain with their owner unless a signed agreement says otherwise.

Are toys and merchandise included?

Not automatically. Merchandising and toy rights are ancillary rights and should be separately identified and negotiated. CodexDeus may request them for a suitable property, but the scope, approval process, economics, and rights reserved by the author belong in the signed agreement.

Is the 90/10 structure guaranteed?

It is the target structure for selected rights partnerships: 90% of Defined Game Net Receipts to CodexDeus and 10% to the rights holder, with monthly accounting after commercial release. The advance, recoupment, deductions, audit rights, payment threshold, and all other terms are established only by the final signed agreement.
